Under the sponsorship and presence of Nablus Governor Ghassan Daghlas, Nablus University for Vocational and Technical Education and the Land Authority organized a ceremony to receive the lands allocated and expropriated for the benefit of the university, totaling 140 dunams, located in the eastern part of Nablus city, next to Askar camp.
The ceremony was attended by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Nablus University for Vocational and Technical Education, Dr. Fathi Abu Moghli, and the university's president, Prof. Derar Eleyan. Diana Barakat, Director of State Property in Nablus, representing the Chairman of the Land Authority, Mr. Alaa Tamimi, Nablus Mayor Dr. Hussam Al-Shakhshir. Along with several directors and representatives of official institutions and national figures.
During the ceremony, Dr. Abu Moghli stated that this event marks the foundation stone laying for the first facilities of Nablus University. He emphasized the uniqueness of the technical university, which embodies the national strategy for vocational and technical education in Palestine, designed to meet the local community's needs in providing human resources capable of actively participating in economic and social development aimed at building the Palestinian state.
Dr. Abu Moghli pointed out that the location choice of the university campus, in the eastern part of Nablus city, stemmed from the region's need for development projects in various fields, including education. The university will work to achieve this in partnership with the governorate's institutions. It will also serve as a beacon for technical and vocational education in Palestine and a hub for creativity and innovation.
Prof. Eleyan thanked the attendees for participating in this event, which represents an important step in the university's launch and solidifying its tangible presence in Nablus city. He expressed the university's gratitude to the President of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, for allocating this portion of state land to the university, and to Prime Minister Dr. Mohammed Mustafa and Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr. Amjad Barham for their continuous support for the university.
Prof. Eleyan also praised the efforts of partners, including the Nablus Governorate and the Land Authority, for their role in following up on the completion of the university's lands and for supporting the university in all aspects from the very beginning.
He also thanked the French Development Agency (AFD) and the French Red Cross for their support of the Ibn Sina College for Health Professions project, which is the first and foundational college of Nablus University. Their full cooperation with the university's team has contributed to developing the college and its programs, preparing engineering plans, and conducting training workshops to establish a modern, sustainable green building for the college according to environmentally friendly standards.
Prof. Eleyan provided an overview of Nablus University since its inception, outlining its vision and strategy, as well as the major developments it has witnessed in infrastructure, academic program development, and strengthening relations with partner institutions both locally and internationally. This includes signing numerous memorandums of understanding and participating in international conferences and projects.
Prof. Eleyan explained that Nablus University represents a genuine desire for positive change, believing that despite the challenges and difficulties faced by the Palestinian people, the university, through diligent work and the unification of national and civil efforts under the guidance of the Palestinian government and the leadership of President Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen), can create a university environment that fosters qualitative advancement in the higher education sector, particularly in vocational and technical education. He noted that the university will be a university for all Palestinians and a cornerstone in building the Palestinian state, with Jerusalem as its capital.
Governor Daghlas emphasized the importance of advancing the educational and vocational process by completing the university's establishment as quickly as possible, as it serves the entire governorate, especially the eastern region of Nablus. He appreciated the efforts of the Board of Trustees in making the project successful, stating that the Palestinian government, led by President Mahmoud Abbas, is giving significant attention to the educational sector despite all the obstacles posed by the Israeli occupation.
Dr. Al-Shakhshir expressed Nablus Municipality's full readiness to cooperate with the university's administration and related authorities, providing necessary facilitation within its powers and capabilities to support the establishment of the university, which constitutes a significant and unique addition to Palestinian higher education institutions, particularly in the technical field.
The ceremony also included a video presentation prepared by the Media and International Relations Department, showcasing the university's most significant achievements since its establishment, in terms of administrative governance, international partnerships, its five colleges, engineering plans, and the campus facilities.
The attendees then payed a field visit to the university lands to confirm their boundaries and officially inaugurate the university campus construction project.
